How to find the best Texas electricity plan for you
There isn't one best electricity plan in Texas. The best plan for you is the cheapest one at your real monthly usage, with a contract length you're fine with and fees you can live with. Pull up a year of bills, compare EFL prices at that usage on Power to Choose, and skip plans that confuse you.
Power to Choose is the state's official, free plan-comparison site run by the PUCT. We don't get paid when you click.
There is no single best plan
The right plan depends on how much electricity you use, how long you want the contract, and which fees you are willing to accept. A plan that wins for one household can be a poor fit for the next.
We don't rank providers here. We don't have a live plan feed, so a 'best provider' list would be a guess.
Start with your own usage
Pull a year of bills if you can. Note a low month, a typical month, and a high month. Compare the Electricity Facts Label at the 500, 1,000, and 2,000 kWh columns that bracket those months.
Usage and price context for Texas is published by the U.S. Energy Information Administration. Use their tables if you want a statewide picture. Don't treat a statewide average as your bill.
A simple way to narrow it
Prefer a fixed plan unless you have a real reason to take a variable price. Read the contract length, the early termination fee, and what happens at renewal. Skip a plan you can't explain back to yourself.
Then do the comparison on Power to Choose for your ZIP, not on a page that names a winner.

Questions
Is there a best electricity provider in Texas?
No. The right plan depends on your usage, the contract, and the fees. This site does not rank providers.
Should I pick a fixed or variable plan?
Most people are better off with a fixed energy rate so the price doesn't move every month. A variable plan can fit a short stay. Read the fixed-versus-variable guide.
Which usage column should I use?
The one closest to your own bill. Check the columns on either side if your usage swings in summer.
Where do I compare every plan?
